Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I bring my dog?
Yes, we do welcome dogs but request that you contact us in advance to discuss further requirements. There is an extra £30 per hire charge to cover the additional cleaning from pet hairs and paw prints. This small charge covers all your dogs although we do not recommend you bring any more than 2 medium sized breeds or 1 large as you simply won’t all fit in the camper!
Most campsites are dog-friendly and there are acres of mountains, moorland and coastal paths to explore.
If you do bring your dog then please respect the camper and bring throws and/or a dog bed to prevent damage to the seats and fittings. Any damage will be deducted from your security deposit.
2. Before booking, can we come and see the campervans?
Yes, you can come and see us and decide which camper you think would suit you best, just contact us to arrange a time.
3. What's included in the price?
Everything we can think of that you will need for a fantastic trip, and your camper packed all ready to go! The hire price includes:
- • Hire of your chosen right-hand drive classic VW campervan
- • Fully comprehensive UK vehicle insurance for the first driver
- • UK standard equipment and breakdown cover
- • Unlimited mileage
- • 1 bottle of camping gas
- • Mains hook-up
- • Cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery
- • Outdoor table and chairs so you can enjoy the sunshine
You can add extra camping equipment such as a ‘drive away’ awning or bike rack via your online booking form.
4. What do we need to bring?
All you need to bring is your bedding, towels, food, clothing and a sense of adventure!
5. Can we order online shopping to be delivered before we pick up our campervan?
Yes, but you must keep perishables to a minimum. The fridge is not the size of domestic fridge.
6. Can I use public transport to get to you?
Yes, if you are coming to us by train or coach we can arrange to pick you up from the station in Bangor.
7. Can children travel?
Yes, our campervans have 3-point seat belts which means that most child seats can be securely fitted as with any modern style vehicle. Please refer to the Features and Facilities section of your chosen campervan for information on the number and location of 3-point seat belts in the camper.
You are responsible for bringing a child-seat suitable for your child that complies with UK law, to check please click here.
8. Does the insurance cover our belongings?
No, the insurance provided only covers the vehicle. We suggest taking out some holiday or travel insurance to cover your belongings on your holiday.
9. Are the campervans easy to drive?
As the campervans are at least 40 years old, they do drive differently compared to a modern car. They do not have power steering and they only have four gears but it doesn’t take most people long to settle into enjoying the drive.
These are vintage vehicles built in the 1970’s, so keep the speed down – you should not drive above 55 mph. The gears and breaks are very different to modern cars and it is advisable to leave lots of space and allow lots of time for braking and gear changes. Don’t let your camper struggle up hills – better to change down and keep the revs up.
10. Will I get instructions on how to drive the campervan?
Yes, we will show you how everything works, from the front cab driving controls to how to operate electrics, cooking equipment and pop top roof. After a few minutes and a drive down the road with Jon, our expert, you will feel at home.
You will also be given a campervan handbook with further info to take with you.
11. Are the campervans reliable?
Our campers are over 40 years old and still running well. All our campervans have reconditioned engines and lots of new parts (clutch, brakes etc.). They are regularly serviced and go through strict safety checks, between each hire.
Should the campervan breakdown we have full breakdown cover and emergency roadside assistance. If the campervan cannot be repaired, we will try and get a replacement campervan to you. If this is not possible, we will refund the remaining fraction of your holiday cost.
12. Is there a limit to the daily mileage?
No, but classic VW campervans are not intended to be driven in a hurry. A relaxed, leisurely drive is the best experience, giving you the opportunity to appreciate the stunning scenery of Snowdonia Mountains and Coast.
A campervans top speed is 55 mph with an average speed more likely to be around 45 mph. When planning your road trip, you will need to consider how far you can realistically travel in a day. We would recommend no more that 50 miles a day, and to stay somewhere ‘closer to home’ for your first and last night, especially as the camper needs to be back with us by 11am on return.
13. Does the campervan have an electric hook-up?
Yes, so if you stay on campsites with this facility, you can plug in your gadgets, etc. into the UK 3-point plug socket in the campervan.
14. Are all the campervans non-smoking?
Yes, they are all non-smoking.
15. Are the campervans fitted with smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers?
16. Are you gas safe approved?
17. Can we extend our holiday in the campervan whilst we are away?
Yes, as long as the campervan is not already booked. Just give us a call while you are away and we will arrange the additional insurance and booking costs.
18. What if I am running late to return the campervan?
If you are late in returning the campervan it is possible that you are driving uninsured therefore breaking the law, and also delaying the start to someone else’s holiday. Please plan carefully to avoid this situation and call us immediately if you think you may be late back.
19. What if we need to cancel?
If you are unable to make the holiday you have planned, we can only refund you if you cancel outside the six-week period prior to departure, having paid in advance. The deposit of £150 made at booking point is non-refundable at any time. However, if we do manage to get another booking for the same campervan, for the same rental period we will waive the cancellation fee but not the booking deposit.
